Abstract:

RNA extracted quantitatively, in an undegraded form, from rabbit kidney labelled in vivo and from rabbit kidney slices labelled in vitro, for various periods, has been analysed on three different systems (Sephadex and methylated albumin-Kieselguhr columns and a sucrose density gradient). Detectable label was found in sRNA at 30 min but not at 15 min, and in rRNA at 3 hr but not at 2 hr, both in vivo and in vitro. The rapidly labelled RNA (labelled earlier than sRNA and rRNA and different from them) could, in either case, be classified into four distinct types, distinguishable by their behaviour on the three fractionation systems. The distribution of the label at varying time intervals in these RNAs and in sRNA has been estimated.
